Prologue

Sunday 25th of May 2025, @00:30

I often lie in my room before bed and let my thoughts swim in the darkness of my mind until they blur out from drowsiness. They form their images, shapes and colours from the complexities of experiences unprocessed and concepts I have only read in books but now sit in the crevices of my psyche.

I want this exhibition to bring you into that moment.

A glimpse into the moment I have when I’m not flooded with the million things I must accomplish, dreams I am yet to dream, responsibilities I didn’t know I had to take ownership of, and people I must provide and protect.

The curtains close the space, the same way I close my eyes and set the stage for these paintings. The figures and the fabrics dancing in my mind. Questioning my womanhood. Questioning my moral code. Questioning motherhood. Questioning social constructs.

I guess I’m just looking for a way to express these thoughts and feelings that only appear in images because I don’t have or haven’t found the correct words to express them myself.

I guess I want to be seen.
Seen through my art. Seen in my art. Something objective. Something I can speak about.

I guess I am hoping to find the words through self-projection.
All the fears, the anger, the guilt, the hurt...

I’m just glad I’ve found an outlet.
I’m just glad I feel free to express myself.
