I got to see the sun rise..

I like it when I’m a little too warm and the cold air kisses my face. There's something gentle about being slapped by the winter air that eases it enough to be a kiss from nature's tides.

I don’t usually leave my home so early - hell I don’t leave my home unless absolutely necessary. But today I had to.

The buses stood together; one behind the other and they ran off together and that made me think of unity. Of a universal truth even the alchemist talks about. About everything being one. It was funny at first to see them run away together. Almost romantic even. Dostoevsky would write about how tragic it was for me to find love and romance in buses - these unloving unliving living things.

Then the sun started. In embers so pink and hot orange, it made me think of summer. A summer when the hot air would dance around the cold air I’d force myself to feel.

And then the birds, the birds. That’s where it started!

The birds were like you and me.. and Icarus! They flew to the sun and I wondered which direction they were going.. east or west? That was a silly question because I know the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. I saw Icarus and asked where he was going.

I thought of their destination, their journey, and their families. How many were left behind, how many were scurrying to return to the flock? How many were like the seagull in Jonathan Livingston's book? A Rough Rider, a rebel, a dreamer??

And then I thought of me, and of you. How we’ve gone distances to find our own home. Our place in the world. And then I thought of the many other birds and realised we were all one.

Human nature is nature. Just because we walk on our hind legs, talk, and do weird things like drive cars, we are all one.

And the universe reminded me of that.

I wanted to take a picture of the sun rise as it continued to paint the sky in shades of pink, orange, coral, chartreuse green, indigo and violet. The clouds that were hiding started to show and I wanted to show you, but I thought more of being one with nature. Being one with the moment. Being one with the sunrise.
