Devine Feminine (2018)
Terracotta Bisque clay
17 in x 10 in x 15 in
The sculpture is a study and appropriation of the original creator, Thutmose.
The sculpture is a symbol of idealised femininity and beauty. Her long neck and full lips sit on her frame with poise. In many African cultures, long necks are symbols of beauty, elegancy, nobility and spiritual connection, with cultures practicing neck stretching and neck ornamenting.
I used Queen Nefertiti because her impeccable legacy as a female queen. An enduring symbol of grace, strength and divine feminity. She embodied an ideal that transcended mere aesthetics - her elegance was a reflection of her wisdom, influence and sovereginty.
As a Queen and Co-Ruler of Egypt, Nefertiti’s presence was not just ornamental but authorative, shaping history alongside her husband, Pharoah Akhenaten.
Through this piece I explored the harmonious relationship between power and delicacy, through the clay medium, capturing the timeless allure of a woman whose legacy has inspired many women.
