Perfecto (2018)

This painting explores the paradox of sight in Sophocles’ Oedipus Rex, where vision extends beyond the physical and into the realm of truth and fate.
Inspired by the intense dialogue between Oedipus and the blind prophet Tiresias, the work highlights a certain irony which I based my painting on.
Those who see are often blind and those without sight often perceive the uncomfortable truths that others refuse to acknowledge.
Beyond the myth, this theme resonates with contemporary society. We live in an age where visibilty is equaited with knowledge - where access to information is limitless, yet genuine understanding remains elusive. Like Oedipus, modern society clings to the illusions of cetainty, often resisting truths that challenege its constructed narratives.
This work questions whether seeing is truly knowing, or if knowledge only emerges when we confront our own blindness. His gauged eyes with blooding dripping down was something I really wanted to emphasis. It was the climax of his awakening, where the truth was too great for him to see.
