Self (2018)
Mixed Media - acrylic paint, oil pastels, markers42 in x 50 in
A self-portrait marks an artists journey, capturing not only their evolved ability and way of expression, but their spirit, their essence in the eyes of themselves.
For the graduating exhibtion, I wanted to include an interactive piece that would mark the moment in my artistic journey where things changed.
As a final piece in the exhibtion talk i allowed the viewers to gatehr their thoughts and write anything they took from the show or how it made them feel. I wanted to be comments that defined my art and my perspectives, but doesn’t define who I am as an artist.
The idea was inspired by Marcel Duchamp, who believes that the both artist and the viewer complete the artwork.
